Frequently Asked Questions

How much do I need to track the exchange price myself?

Volton devices track the price for you and schedule consumption to the cheapest hours - you only need to set the operating mode first. Then you can peacefully watch how Volton saves your money and nerves.

Isn't it cheaper to keep the device on all the time, rather than turning it off and reheating it from cold?

No, it's not.

If the device stays warm all the time, it loses energy every hour, even when not in use.

If the device is turned off in between, less energy is lost, and later you only need to reheat what cooled down during that time.

Why should I buy a Volton device if I can get it cheaper from a competitor or order directly from China?

Ordering directly from China or buying cheap often gets you a device, but not a working solution. Volton's goal is to provide a truly automatic, reliable, and long-term working complete solution.

Advantages of Volton solution:

  • Automatic control based on Nord Pool electricity prices
  • Better hardware quality
  • Precise consumption tracking and control
  • No monthly fees
  • Data stays in Estonia
  • Flexible custom solutions
  • Estonian team and continuous development
  • Fast customer support

How do I know if I have a 1-phase or 3-phase electrical connection?

1. Check the electrical panel

Open your home's electrical panel and look at the main switch or main circuit breakers.

• 1-phase connection

  • has one main switch or one main circuit breaker
  • marking is usually 230 V or 1×25 A

• 3-phase connection

  • has three main switches side by side or one wider triple switch
  • marking is usually 400 V or 3×16 A / 3×25 A

2. Check the electricity meter

The front of the electricity meter often shows:

  • 1~ → 1-phase connection
  • 3~ → 3-phase connection

How do I know which Elektrilevi package I have?

You can see this in Elektrilevi's self-service portal.

1. Log in to Elektrilevi self-service

2. Select Network contracts and packages from the menu

3. It clearly states which network package (1, 2, 4, or 5) you are using.

How do different operating modes work?

  • Economy mode – the device operates 7 hours per day, mainly during the cheapest hours, and is off the rest of the time. Suitable for a summer house or another home where savings are more important than constant comfort.
  • Balanced mode – the device operates 11 hours per day and prefers cheaper hours. Suitable for everyday homes where you want to keep costs under control while maintaining comfort.
  • Comfort mode – the device operates 17 hours per day and only shifts part of the work to cheaper hours. Suitable for those who want as uniform heat as possible and are willing to accept slightly less additional savings for greater comfort.
  • Custom settings – you can set the price limit, minimum and maximum operating hours, and specific times when the device must definitely operate.

Is there a monthly fee for using the service?

No. When using Volton, there are no monthly fees or hidden additional charges - you only pay when purchasing the device. Once the smart plug or relay has paid for itself through savings on electricity bills, all subsequent savings are already your pure profit.

Where is Volton software made?

The software is developed in Estonia by our own team.

How do software updates work?

Software updates happen completely automatically, you don't need to do anything yourself. Updates are installed in the background and do not interfere with device operation.

Are Volton devices safe?

The connection to Volton servers is encrypted and private, and third parties do not have access to it.

What happens if the internet goes down?

If the internet connection is temporarily lost, the device continues to work according to the last saved settings. When the connection is restored, Volton synchronizes again and continues to control devices normally according to your settings.

How does the Volton Home app work and how to use it?

The Volton Home app shows you today's and tomorrow's electricity prices, device operation and savings in real time, and automatically controls devices according to your selected modes.

How long is the warranty?

Volton devices have a 2-year warranty. If problems arise with the device, contact our customer support at +372 5351 3304. If it turns out that the problem is in the hardware, we will replace the device.

What to do if I have thrown away the package with the setup code and instructions?

If you no longer have the setup instructions with the QR code, you can still get the device code without paper.

Go to your phone's WiFi settings and find the network created by the Volton device with a name like this:

Volton-xxxxxxxxxx-6337

Where the x's are, that's your device code, which you can use for new connection and setup.

How to switch your Wi-Fi router to 2.4 GHz frequency?

Before adding the Volton device, make sure that the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is enabled in your router (Volton does not work on 5 GHz networks). Usually this can be selected from the router's admin page, which you can access by typing the router's IP address in the browser's address bar. If you are using a Telia X2 router, follow our guide for this.

Where can I buy Volton devices?

Volton devices can be purchased:
  • From our e-shop – fast delivery and free shipping within Estonia.
  • From resellers across Estonia, including Cerbos, Oomipood, Finetrek, Hekamerk, Onninen and Noortehnik.

Are Volton devices beneficial with a fixed electricity package?

The devices work, but no savings occur.

Volton is designed for use with a market package – if the price doesn't change, there's nothing to shift to cheaper times.

What are the minimum requirements for Volton devices to be truly beneficial?

Volton devices are truly beneficial when you have something to control and when to control it. This means:
  • You have a market package where electricity prices change over time. If the price is always the same, there's nothing to shift to cheaper times.
  • At home, there is at least one larger electricity consumer whose operation can be scheduled – such as an electric water heater, floor heating, heat pump, electric radiator, or EV charger.

What is the difference between a smart relay, DIN smart relay, and 3-phase DIN smart relay?

Smart Relay – goes behind a junction box or switch. Suitable for smaller loads and floor heating control in one room or a small zone.

DIN Smart Relay – installed in an electrical panel on a DIN rail. Can control larger loads, such as floor heating, electric sauna heater, or other panel-controlled devices on one phase.

3-phase DIN Smart Relay – also in an electrical panel, but designed for three-phase and even more powerful devices, such as an EV charger, larger water heater, or large-area floor heating.
